Dining Chair Slipcovers

Would you be happy with these chairs?

I went a little crazy (I know, shocker!) a couple of days ago and made some dining chair slipcovers.   The sewing machine was already out and I thought...why should we be happy with only one look in our dining room???   Why wouldn't I just whip out five easy slipcovers for our gorgeous new dining set???   Not those kind that cover the whole chair back and all...just some dainty little seat covers.   I went to work measuring the seats and cutting out my remnant fabric.   Sorry friends, I did not make a photo tutorial of all of this. I just don't feel qualified to give tutorials on sewing projects yet. Maybe when I'm a little more seasoned!   I removed the seats from the chair, they just screw off from the chair bottom, and laid them on my fabric to trace.  I added in a half inch seam allowance on all sides. Then I cut the front, back and side strips at 3 1/2 inches wide ~ this part will hang down the sides a bit.  Then came four "tie backs" to tie the cover onto the chair backs.  :)  Pretty simple, right?   Just a lot of sewing and hemming. I'm sure there was an easier way to make these slipcovers, but I wasn't using a pattern or tutorial, just shooting from the hip.   And I have a thing about patience.  I'm not proud...just honest.  Please don't hold it against me.  With all of the advanced planning on my part, (haha) I still ran out of fabric with just the tie backs left to cut out.  I sent my helpful assistant to Joann's Fabrics, since he was already heading to town.  And of course they didn't have a matching fabric ~ my original was a remnant that came from the local drug store.  Laughing OUT LOUD!!!  I dashed out to that local drug store to see if I would be lucky enough to find more of my fabric.   The closest thing I could find was a fabric that was a couple shades lighter.  It might be considered a "happy accident".  The tie backs look like they were meant to be lighter.  Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part but take a look and decide for yourself.

Drumroll please...

Just a "few" shots of how they turned out.  ;)  The really amazing thing is that I still have hair!

Just in case you hadn't noticed the amazing tabletop...here it is in all of it's shining glory.  Scott put an unthinkable amount of polyurethane coats on to get it this shiny.  Every time we walk by we run our hand over it to reassure ourselves that it is indeed dry.  I can't bring myself to cover it with a table runner just yet.  We are still too busy admiring how crazy-good it turned out!

So nice to meet you! I found you from Debbie Doo's. My jaw just about dropped when I saw this table. I said "That's the table I want!!!!! I was all set to e-mail you, and ask where you found it. Then, I read further, and see hubby found it in the trash??? Holy cow! What a find!! It turned out beautiful!!! I have been looking for a set that comes like yours, and they are well over $1,000. I have a dark pine set. I have hope now, I will continue to search! Thanks for the inspiration! Have a wonderful holiday!
